Leeville, Lincoln County, South Dakota

History of Leeville, South Dakota

Originally, the "country point" of Leeville was known as Harem, SD. The store keeper and postmaster at Harem was a prominent Lincoln county man named Lee G. Willis (d. 1916). Many confused the name, Harem, with the South Dakota town, Huron; and, postal authorities sought a new name. The location was renamed "Leeville" in honor of Lee Willis.
