The Family Practice Medical Clinic was established at 600 West Cedar in Beresford, SD. The clinic was owned by Central Plains Clinic. The Family Practice Medical Clinic operated under the same name for approximately twenty years before it was renamed after a merger in 2001.
The clinic delivered its first baby at 2:45pm on July 25, 1985. The mother was a young woman from outside South Dakota. She was traveling through the Beresford area after being in labor for two or three hours; and, she stopped at the first clinic she could find. There was not enough time to get the woman to a hospital; but, the baby was delivered at the clinic without difficulty.
On April 17, 2001, the merger of Central Plains Clinic with Sioux Valley Health Systems was approved. The merger was complete on May 1, 2001. The merger of the two health organizations was for business purposes; and, the only noticeable change at the clinic at 600 West Cedar was the name on the sign, which was changed to read Sioux Valley Clinic.
