A Look Back at Adventures in Safety

Remembrances

Adventures in Safety was an educational/instructional television series. It was hosted by a law-enforcement officer (identified only as "Officer Ron") and his ventriloquist dummy, Terry Savesko. Both wore law-enforcement uniforms and sat in front of a black backdrop while discussing topics about safety. Topics might have varied from traffic-related safety (something such as "look both ways before crossing the street") to personal safety (such as "don't talk to strangers"). Officer Ron tended to be the one who provided most of the explanations; while, Terry tended to be the one who asked questions and learned from Officer Ron. It is recalled that Officer Ron was a reasonably good ventriloquist.

The theme music to Adventures in Safety was Linus and Lucy by Vince Guaraldi. This song was probably better remembered by most as being the theme music to the various Peanuts cartoon television specials.

Survival of the Series

It is not known at this time whether or not any recordings of Adventures in Safety were retained. During the early years of television, some local broadcasters were said to have focused more on looking forward rather than on preserving their legacies. It is known that many broadcasters with limited budgets (as well as limited storage space) tended to get rid of recordings of their older shows when they were no longer being shown. Since Adventures in Safety was a color television series, retention of recordings of this series was probably more likely than if it had been a black and white series. However, this series appears to have not been broadcast (at least on SDPTV) since the 1970s.

Notes

It is possible that Officer Ron's last name was revealed in the show's credits. A recording of an episode of the series (or possibly documentation related to the series) would need to be seen to confirm whether or not this was the case. Since, Officer Ron's ventriloquist dummy had a surname, it is possible that this was Officer Ron's own surname.
