Genealogical Databases

This page contains tables of databases used as references by the author of this web site.

The following table lists databases, each of which was created by a single person. Each of the database services (websites) hosts multiple databases. The information within each of those databases is controlled by the database's respective owner. A few of the on-line databases by the same person were generated from the same source GEDCOM. In those cases, the data itself is identical; but, the representation of that data varies from web site to web site. In other cases, two or more databases belonging to different people contain some overlapping information.

GED2WWW is a computer program which generates a set of webpages from a source GEDCOM file. The owner of the GEDCOM can use the program to generate webpages, which that owner can then place onto his/her genealogy website.

The GenCircles and WorldConnect database services have gone offline. The databases from WorldConnect are expected to be relocated to a special collection on the Ancestry website.

The following table lists collective genealogical databases. Each website contains only a single database which was created through the collective efforts of many people. As a general rule, each of those databases contains only a single record for an individual listed within the database (if exceptions to this rule exist, the main reason is that more than one record for an individual was created by more than one contributor; and, multiple records for the same individual within a database will eventually be merged into a single record). A record within one of these databases is initially created by a single contributor; but, the contents of that record might be modified (either correctly or incorrectly) by another contributor at a later time.
